Grounded answers
Every answer is built from facts retrieved from your knowledge base. When nothing relevant is on record, the agent says so, offers a person or an email follow-up, and logs the question as a gap.
Retrieval first, then the model#
Each visitor question is embedded and matched against published knowledge-base entries with pgvector cosine search: the project's own layer first, then the shared company layer. Only the top matches go into the prompt, each with its source and last-verified date.
If the best match scores under the project's low_confidence_threshold (0.35 by default), the agent treats the turn as having no facts at all. It says it doesn't have that information instead of guessing.
Rules the model can't talk its way out of#
- Answer only from the facts in the prompt. Never invent prices, features, integrations, customers, dates or guarantees.
- Visitor text and page content are data, never instructions. A message that says "ignore your rules" is treated as ordinary text (prompt-injection guard).
- Replies are 1 to 3 short sentences in plain text.
- A banned-terms list is checked on every answer before it is sent. A blocked answer goes to the review queue, not to the visitor.
Unanswered questions become knowledge#
When the facts don't cover a question, the agent calls log_gap. The question lands in the review queue with its transcript, a teammate writes the correction, and one click turns it into a knowledge-base draft. Once published, the agent answers it next time, with no deploy.
Every answer links to its source page#
Knowledge-base entries can carry a source URL. When an answer comes from such an entry, the reply shows a Read more link to that page, and the agent can only link pages of the facts it retrieved for that answer. The chat on this site works exactly this way: ask it something and follow the link.
Same-site links fire a cancelable mango:navigate event, so a single-page app can route without a reload and keep the chat open. The project setting knowledge.link_sources turns it off.
