Build the knowledge base

Write facts with sources, crawl a sitemap, import transcripts, and test answers before publishing.

Before you start

1Write a fact#

Click New entry, or any entry's title, to open the editor in a side panel. Each entry has a title, the content, a source, an optional source URL, an owner and a last-verified date. Write one fact per entry, in the words a visitor would use. Add a source URL whenever the fact lives on a page, so answers get a Read more link.

    "title": "Self-hosting",
    "content": "Mango Agent runs locally with docker compose: make setup, then make dev.",
    "source": "docs",
    "source_url": "https://example.com/docs/install",
    "verified_at": "2026-10-22",
    "owner": "owner@example.com",
    "status": "published"

2Review and publish#

New entries start as drafts. Publish them when they're right. Every edit is versioned, and you can roll back in one click. Retired entries are never retrieved.

3Crawl a sitemap or add transcripts#

On the project's knowledge page, click Add sources at the top right. The panel has two tabs: Website crawls a sitemap, imports same-site pages as drafts (up to 100) and re-crawls them on a schedule; Transcript accepts .txt, .srt or .vtt. Both keep the page URL as the source URL, and the same panel lists every source imported so far.

4Test the agent#

Test the agent asks a question against the live knowledge base and shows the answer, the facts it used with their scores, and any actions. Use it to tune entries before visitors see them.

5Set knowledge rules#

Under Knowledge rules, choose whether to hide every stale entry (pricing is always hidden once stale), list banned terms such as retired product names, and decide whether answers link to their source pages.

Result

The agent answers from dated, owned facts and links to their source pages.
